“The Promise”

I promised,

I’d do it.

Walk it,

like,

I talk it.

Take in the sights,

as the river

ran through it.

Embrace,

the embroidered path

of indulgence…

Merge,

with the markets,

of, salty-sweet, pungence..

Appreciate,

every store,

of bespoken vocations,

galore…

I promised,

I’d do it..

I did it,

for sure…

I vowed,

that

I’d wander

and wonder

and marvel..

‘neath buildings,

entirely, sunsplashed,

created, in marble..

I took onboard,

sustenance,

observing suitors,

engaging emotions,

whilst dreaming, of futures…

and, still-steaming, tea,

warmed up,

my cold innards.

The pigeons perched,

upon the ledge…

…regarding the decadence,

of that which

I’d pledged.

The Promise,

was made.

Was kept.

Is, now,

fully-fledged.
